Following
the latest amendments to the technical regulations by the FIA and from
experience gained since the 2005 Dakar Rally the following points should
be considered;-
Points
from 2005 Dakar Rally.
1 Tow points need to be closed.
Cars produced during 2005 have been fitted with an additional closed tow
point mounted below the front bumper.
2 The
ASO technical note issued prior to the 2005 Dakar Rally stated air restrictors
outside diameter must be reduced to 51mm local to internal restriction.
(See also New Points below).
3 The hose clips of the idle control system and the air intake pipework
need to be drilled to allow seals to be fitted.
Note;- this is in line with the ASO technical note issued before the 2005
Dakar.
At least two of the bolts, which secure the throttle body to the inlet
manifold, must also have their heads drilled to accept sealing wire.
Also the cylinder heads and engine block must have holes, which can have
a wire seal attached. The cylinder block has an existing hole in a lug
on the left hand side towards the front of the engine, below the cylinder
head.
4 The ARB Compressor behind the left hand seat requires covering by a
robust guard.
5 The safety harness crutch strap requires an additional mounting eye.
6 Move the 2kg AFFF extinguisher mounting onto gearbox cover or fit additional
smaller AFFF extinguisher, which can be accessed by the driver whilst
he is wearing his seat belts & relocate life hammer onto roof or dashboard
if fire extinguisher is moved to the top of gearbox cover.
7 The fuel tank breathers may require modification - Re-route up, across
top roll hoop and down left hand side, keep roll over valves in breather
pipe.
8 Ensure door side windows are easily removable for emergency evacuation.
9 The front mud flaps may require repositioning further out or wider flaps
fitting to provide sufficient cover of the front tyres.
New
Points.
1 Rollcage - It is strongly advised to ensure that an additional tube
is added to each side of the front roll hoop inside the cockpit.
(Bowler Off Road Ltd can supply a kit of material for this modification).
2 Air Restrictor - The revised FIA regulations suggest that the outside
diameter of the restrictor must be less than 6mm larger than the restricted
diameter inside
(local to the restriction). Bowler Off Road Ltd has requested clarification
on this but has not as yet received a response.
3 The
hose clips of the idle control system and the air intake pipework need
to be drilled to allow seals to be fitted.
The cylinder block has an existing hole in a lug
on the left hand side towards the front of the engine, below the cylinder
head.
To avoid
problems at Technical Check we also suggest that customers consider following;-
Leave passenger seat loose for removal at Technical Check to allow officials
access to fixed extinguisher bottle.
Check vehicle weight, we suggest minimum at Technical Check 1825kg.
We advise customers to remove the 3rd spare wheel carriers for Technical
Check.
